These wonderful infographics about reproductive health were recently released by The Guttmacher Institute, a foundation which aims to advance knowledge of reproductive health worldwide. They also bust myths surrounding abortion and reproductive health with this super amazing tool called “science.”

These infographics show the often sad realities of abortion in America — for many facing unintended pregnancy, it’s a nearly unattainable, expensive procedure with barriers that worsen for those who are in poverty or are people of color.

400 White Students at Ole Miss Shout Racist Slurs, Burn Obama Sign - But Don’t Call It a ‘Riot’

About 400 Ole Miss students gathered soon after news reports named Barack Obama the winner of Tuesday’s election for what school officials and most in the media called a “protest,” but what looked and felt more like a riot to observers.

Reports of students shouting racial epithets and of Obama signs being burned were verified in a statement by the University of Mississippi and by students who posted photos and videos of events to Twitter and Instagram live from the scene.

Here’s how the New York Times described events:

“The university’s chancellor, Dan Jones, said, ‘All of us are ashamed of the few students who have negatively affected the reputations of each of us and of our university.’ No one was injured, and no property was damaged, but Dr. Jones said the campus police were investigating.”

Adding…

“Mr. Obama lost to Mitt Romney in Mississippi by a wide margin. But after Mr. Obama was declared the winner in the national race, 30 or 40 people began protesting on the campus, and a rumor spread through Twitter that it was a riot. ‘The gathering seems to have been fueled by social media, and the conversation should have stayed there,’ Dr. Jones said.”

Other reports from the Associated Press and the local Clarion-Ledger had a similar tone: Apologetic, dismissive, and sympathetic towards Ole Miss.

Which begs the question: What if it would have been 400 Chicanos shouting slurs at whites and burning Romney signs? Would the New York Times and AP have called it a riot?

It’s a safe bet they would have.

Mainstream media outlets clearly went out of their way to cover for Ole Miss, something that wasn’t necessary, nor their duty as sources of information.

When police look for a suspect, my dad said, the first place they go is to any group of black males loitering curbside. “You can’t be standing around, doing nothing,” Dad said.

When you have 40 percent of kids being born out of wedlock, and among certain ethnic groups the vast majority being born out of wedlock, you ask yourself, how are we going to have a society in the future? Because these kids are raised in poverty in many cases, they’re in abusive settings. The likelihood of them being able to finish high school or college drops dramatically in single-family homes. And we haven’t been willing to talk about this.

Mitt Romney, at Wednesday’s CNN debate in Arizona.

Hey, you know what prevents unwanted pregnancy? This.

Love the insinuation that poverty IS child abuse. And the racism. That throwaway remark is quite possibly one of the worst things to come out of last night’s debate.

I could say more, but Elon James White said it much better than I ever could:

I salute you, sir.

Science is not “neutral,” nor is it purely beholden to positivism. People do science. People conduct research. People are embedded in social relationships. People reproduce certain understandings of truth and power. People have a stake in the game, an investment in a certain outcome. To point, there are many reasons why black folks—and people of color more generally—are distrustful of the medical establishment, and view the proposition that science is “neutral,” with great suspicion. We know about medical apartheid, using radiation to put holes in people’s heads, Mississippi appendectomies, the exploitation of Henrietta Lacks, and of course, Tuskegee. There are many other hidden histories. One of these is how black folks were marginalized by the mental health field and branded by State authorities as “insane,” “schizophrenic,” or “mentally ill,” because they dared to defy white racism. We have echoes of how suffragists were treated by the United States government during their struggle for the vote and a more full citizenship. This one is for the eugenicist race science clowns. Hopefully, they will have more entertaining darts to throw at what should be an open and shut case about how white supremacy works through science to reinforce the status quo.

Michelle Malkin makes the claim that Occupy Wall Street is 99% white. It hurts my irony bone for someone on Fox News to criticize a social movement for being “99% white.” It hurts real bad.
According to Malkin:

“The protesters have taken to calling themselves the ‘99 percent’ in the country, labeling the capitalists they wish to remove from power the other ‘1 percent.’ When Occupy Wall Street activists call themselves the ‘99 percent,’ it turns out they mean 99 percent non-diverse (by their own politically correct measurements). It’s as pale out there at Camp Alinsky as MSNBC’s prime-time lineup or the New York Times editorial board. Not counting the cameos by Jesse Jackson and Cornel West, that is.”

Uh-huh… love the photo choice showing a rather diverse crowd, Fox Nation. I don’t need to debunk your claim since you, um, did it yourselves.
Bravo.
