Last year the Texas G.O.P. explicitly condemned efforts to teach “critical thinking skills,” because, it said, such efforts “have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority

October 19, 2012, Washington, DC – Citing survey data showing former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson has in fact achieved the narrow criteria required for inclusion in the Monday debate, earning more than 40 percent of the vote in “head-to-head” polls against President Barack Obama, the Libertarian Party nominee’s campaign today filed a complaint in Federal Court in the District of Columbia maintaining that Johnson has, in fact, met the Commission on Presidential Debates’ criteria for inclusion. The complaint asks the Court to compel the CPD to include Johnson.

Why not let him and Jill Stein debate? God forbid we hear more than two people.

No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady. Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.

Carbonite CEO David Friend on why the company is still dropping its advertisements from Rush Limbaugh’s show despite his faux apology.

Bravo to Carbonite and their CEO. More of this, please.

I get such a chuckle when these things come out. Here we have millions of our fellow americans unemployed, we have jihadist camps being set up in Latin America, which rick has been warning about, and people seem to be so preoccupied with sex. I think that says something about our culture. We maybe need a massive therapy session so we can concentrate on what the real issues are. And this contraceptive thing, my gosh, it’s such inexpensive. Back in my days, they used bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees and it wasn’t that costly.

“An amendment by Delegate David Englin, Democrat of Alexandria, would have allowed medical professionals to determine whether images can be obtained without being penetrated by equipment used in the ultrasound, women would have to give written consent to such a probe under the amendments, but not to sonograms that aren`t invasive. The amendment failed on a 64-34 vote setting up the bill for final House passage.

So, Republicans of Virginia seriously want a government so big it can literally get inside individual citizen`s genitals by force and without their consent.” -Rachel Maddow, discussing Virginia bill that would force doctors to perform physically invasive ultrasounds on patients considering abortions without consent

“Conservatism as once defined simply doesn’t exist anymore, and it has been replaced by a reactionary ideology that is no longer for things but explicitly against things. Chiefly, liberal things, or even things that Republicans used to support but now that they are advanced by Democrats and liberals, they must be renounced.

Hence the personal vitriol against Michelle Obama and her campaign to reduce childhood obesity (really, who in their right mind is against that?), the insertion of the Keystone Pipeline provision in the payroll tax bill (take that, tree huggers!), the reflexive opposition to solar and alternative energy, and on and on.”

As I’m fond of noting, it’s a party in advanced stage of degeneracy.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker gets mic checked by nearly 70 people during a speech at Chicago’s Union League Club on Nov 3rd.

From Stand Up! Chicago:

Our protestors attending the breakfast comprised almost half the total number of attendees. After settling into breakfast, and listening to the Governor’s opening remarks, they delivered a prepared statement via “human mic.”

“It is an outrage and a shame,” the statement began, “that we sit at this fancy breakfast to listen to someone who has wreaked havoc on the lives of working families. Governor Walker has vilified unions and insulted the 99% who depend on living wages and adequate benefits to support their families, while on the payroll of the right wing billionaire Koch brothers.”

Walker called upon the rest of the crowd to drown out the voices of the protestors with loud clapping, but they managed to complete their statement and project their voices above the noise.

Long live the people’s voice!
